Educational Programs

Riverbend Academy, located on SandyPines’ campus, is an accredited school under the jurisdiction of the Martin County School District. Our state of the art school building includes classrooms, a library/computer lab, and smart boards in several school classrooms. Riverbend Academy also utilizes research based interventions to meet each student’s academic needs.
Each teacher at Riverbend Academy is certified under the Florida Department of Education. Teachers have expertise in their content area as well as exceptional student education. Paraprofessionals are trained in data collection and behavioral strategies. Residents attend school, just as they would if they were residing at home, following the Martin County School District’s calendar, including Extended School Year for those qualifying based on an IEP team recommendation..

In additional to the standards based curriculum Riverbend Academy offers an Art program throughout the school year. Students learn about master artists and work with local artists to recreate certain works and create individual works. The school has a community partnership with a local business who has held career education opportunities for students. Students also participate in direct instruction of social skills strategies.

Vocational Training

SandyPines offers a vocational guidance program to residents 13 and older who have achieved level 3 and are deemed psychiatrically stable by the treatment team. This is a service that is designed to assist residents with the identification of realistic employment and career options. Additionally, basic employability skills are taught and referrals to vocational rehabilitation in the community are provided. The program is referred to as the W.O.R.K. I.T. Program (Worthwhile, Opportunity, Resources & Knowledge, Imagine, That!). Residents may also use time spent in this program toward community service hours if necessary.
